CREATING MY BOOKS
About the Idea
This book began like many others, with me scribbling around with the characters on an A3 layout pad. Here you can see the idea of the Bear and his giant teddy enjoying a picnic taking shape. It's clear from these doodles that the Bear was still scared of Eddy (as in Where’s My Teddy?) The basket provided good value as a prop - something for Bear to sit on and a good place for Eddy to hide. When I put these two ideas together - i.e. that Eddy could be in the basket while the Bear sat on it, the story began to take shape. I can’t resist a bit of slapstick and I think it’s a type of humour which children relate to very naturally.
